Following on from the success of Dean’s initial range of artworks we very proud to unveil four new Indigenous designs for our Design Your Own (DYO) website. The designs were all created by NSW-based artist Dean Loadsman (Berinbah Dreaming), exclusively for Blackchrome.
Each design was originally painted using acrylic on canvas, then photographed and uploaded electronically onto our design templates.
Using our Design Your Own website, you can edit colours in the indigenous designs to match your team and then add logos, text and numbers if required.
Heal Country
Growing up on Country, my family would use fire to burn off dead growth and litter, to regenerate new growth and keep Country clean. In this design the dark areas represent areas of Country that have had fire, and the green represents life, new growth and areas that have been healed.
Freshwater
Our freshwater ways are the lifeblood of our Country and have provided life and sustenance, for our people, flora and fauna, for thousands of years. Our native freshwater fish species and turtles were only hunted at certain times of the year, to ensure there would be plenty for the next season and for future generations. These practices of sustainability are still followed to this day.
Guugamgan / Emu
This design represents the story of an ”Old Man Emu” who taught the ”Men” how to be good fathers, to look after the children and grow them up strong. The male emu looks after the nest, incubates the eggs and then takes care of the newborn chicks until they are old enough to go out on their own.
Scar Tree
In some areas of Australia, trees would have a piece of bark removed and a design cut in to provide information and direction for people travelling through Country. Sometimes the design may indicate freshwater, a place to camp, or a Sacred area that was to be avoided.
