We eagerly anticipated the Blackchrome sponsored clash between the Lightning and Boomers and we could not have hoped for a more exciting outcome. What an outstanding effort with the game coming right down to the wire.
The Lightning were looking to continue their winning ways over a top 4 team and had the Boomers locked in their sights early on. Throughout the battle both teams had their share of the lead, however the Boomers held their composure and came away winners at the end after a nail biting finish.
The Lightning should be proud of their performance, particularly after a gutsy play from Abby Bishop who tied the game at 62 a piece with 6 seconds to go. Bishop was unable to repeat those heroics moments later after a great defensive effort left her unable to get off a potential game tying shot in the dying seconds.
Bishop and Nicole Seekamp were the top performers for the Lightning, with Bishop coming away with 14 rebounds and Seekamp finishing with a team high 16 points.
With two of the Lightning’s key players suffering injuries there were concerns that both Bishop and Nat Novosel would not return to the hardwood. However, Bishop returned a short time later and made a great impact. Novosel was rested with a knee concern and that may have been the deciding moment of the game.
Liz Cambage was the highest scorer of the night with an astounding double-double stat line of 32 points and 12 rebounds and shooting 100% from the line with 10/10. Cambage dominated the match after early foul trouble having a huge impact on both ends of the floor.
The Boomers foul shooting was almost flawless with the team shooting 93% from the line compared to the Lightning’s 83%. This may have been the difference as the game came down to the wire with one possession being the ultimate decider.
We look forward to working with the Melbourne Boomers and Adelaide Lightning in the future and would like to thank everyone involved.
